If you were trapped on an island what two things would you bring with you?

Everyone knows the question: if your were to be trapped on an island what two things would you want to have with you? Well, I have been reading this book, Robinson Crusoe, it’s about a man who gets trapped on an island and has to stay there until he can find a way off the island.  Because of what happened in the book I was assigned to do a paper on what two things I would want have  if I was trapped on an island like what happened to Robinson Crusoe

The first thing I would want to have would probably be a knife with a built in sharpener so that if it ever gets dull. I would choose a knife for a few reasons. First, I can make ropes and baskets and many other things with it. Second I can catch fish with it. The way i would catch fish would be to first, find one and then I would have to stab it with my knife, in the head, and then make sure it is dead then cook it. Yes, it would be harder to use than just using a fishing rod but I can do many things with a knife but pretty much only one thing with a fishing rod. Also I can not use my fishing rod to help skin the fish but my knife would be able to!

The second thing I would need is a solar power heavy duty desalinization and water purifier kit. Everyone needs water. Many bad things can happen if you become dehydrated. On islands, if it is anything like Florida in the summer, it would be extremely hot. Therefore you will sweat a lot, and the more you sweat the more water you are losing.  Also you need water because your body is 60% water that should tell you how important water is. When you are dehydrated, you get really thirsty for water. if the water on your island is salt water then if you drink it you get more dehydrated. That is why I would want a solar power heavy duty desalinization and water purifier kit.

I was thinking about having a hacksaw so that I could hack through mountains to make a cave but then I either wouldn’t be able to eat or I wouldn’t be able to drink. I would rather drink than eat for two reasons. First water to me is way more important than food. And second, if I luck out there will be fruit in the trees for me to eat!

Merry almost-Christmas from the learning in pajamas blog to you!
